INTRODUCTION

Caritas Vietnam and the Caritas dioceses have cooperated to implement the Pro-life Awareness project since 2012. Caritas employs specialized staff and collaborative groups to conduct activities and training courses to help dioceses advocate in defense of children.  The project also provides for the collection and burial of aborted babies.  These activities are only more important and meaningful, because the number of abortions is increasing. Facing this situation, the Pro-life section of Caritas Vietnam is focusing increasingly on prevention. Therefore, communication and consultation will be promoted to raise awareness in young people and communities. 

GOAL

Caritas Vietnam contributes to reducing abortion by young people in dioceses through raising awareness about the value of life for the community.

BENIFICIARY

The target audience is young people and their families, especially focusing on Catholic couples.

OBJECTIVES
•To raise awareness of life values in young Catholics and to help them say NO to abortion.
•To build a strong team of communicators and counselors at the diocesan and parish levels through the Caritas network.

MAIN ACTIVITIES
•Disseminate life-affirming values, focusing on online channels.
•Organize training courses to improve communication skills, counseling on the value of life and protection of the fetus for the communicators and counselors at diocesan Caritas levels.
•Support Caritas dioceses in organizing communication and counseling on the value of life and protection of the fetus.
•Link and cooperate with hospitals, health centers, schools, and other community organizations to provide communication sessions and counseling for young people at risk of abortion.

RESULTS

The project began in 2012.  Currently, Caritas Vietnam is collaborating with 16 Caritas dioceses to jointly implement the next project.  From 2015 until now, the diocesan network of 750 volunteers has accomplished the following: 136 communications conducted by diocesan Caritas offices, 13 training sessions, 268 counseling sessions for pregnant women, 17 shelters protecting orphans as well as pregnant mothers. Finally, the number of buried babies is 62,388.

CALL FOR COOPERATION

The current 3-year project (2019-2022) is being implemented in cooperation between Caritas Vietnam and 16 Caritas dioceses in order to raise awareness of the value of life among young people and limit the rate of abortion. This is a challenge, especially in the context of abortion becoming popular and easy to implement. It is a which requires the efforts of the entire community.
